Lee Joon-hwan secures silver in men’s 81 kg final

South Korean men’s judoka Lee Jun-hwan (21-Yongin University) is in the hunt for gold.

Games on Friday at the Linfu Gymnasium in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

Lee secured the silver medal in the final.

If he advances past the final, he will win the first gold medal for Korean judo at the Games.

The semifinals between the Korean and Japanese prospects were fiercely contested. After four minutes

of regulation time, the match went into overtime.

Lee Jun-hwan is touted as the next great Korean ace.

He won gold in the men’s 81kg category at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Grand Slam in

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in June last year, defeating the best of the best. He also won gold at the

Portuguese Grand Prix in January and bronze at the World Championships in May.

Lee, who is competing in his first Asian Games, had his eyes set on the top of the podium.

Meanwhile, Park Eun-song (Donghae City Hall) will continue her quest for a medal in the women’s 57kg bronze medal match.

Kim Ji-jung (Suncheon City Hall) will also compete in the bronze medal match in the women’s 63 kg category.

Han Hee-joo (KH Philux) lost to North Korea’s Moon Sung-hee in the round of 16, while Kang Heon-cheol
