Beijing figure team medal ceremony to be held in Paris for first time in two years

The medal ceremony for the figure skating team event at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will be held in Paris, France, two years after the event was canceled due to Russian figure skater Kamila Valyeva’s positive doping test.

“Following the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision, the gold and silver medals from the figure skating team event at the Beijing Olympic Games will be awarded in Paris,” the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said in a statement on Saturday (Feb. 26). ”We will work with the International Ice Skating Union (ISU), the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the Japanese Olympic Committee to invite the athletes from both teams to Paris.”

The ceremony will take place at Champions Park (the venue for the medal ceremony at the Paris Olympics).”

The U.S. and Japanese athletes who competed in the figure team competition in Beijing will travel to Paris to take the podium once the medal ceremony schedule is finalized.

“Our athletes will finally be celebrated,” the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee said in a statement, ”and they will attend the ceremony in the beautiful city of Paris.”

CAS announced on Friday that it had rejected Russia’s appeal after Valeryeva was disqualified from the figure skating team gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics due to a positive doping test.

As a result, second-place USA moved into first place, while third-place Japan will receive the silver medal.

However, the bronze medal winner has yet to be determined.

In February, the ISU awarded the Russian Olympic Committee third place and Canada fourth in the figure team event, after zeroing out Valyeva’s score and crediting the other Russian athletes.

Canada appealed to CAS, arguing that the Russian Olympic Committee’s total score should be nullified and Canada should be awarded the bronze medal. 안전놀이터
