Choi Hyung-chan, ‘more middle-of-the-road than Lee Min-seo and Lee Joo-young’, gets 12 assists in 12 years

Choi Hyung-chan (189 cm, G) dished out 12 assists, the most by a Yonsei player since Park Kyung-sang’s 13 in 2012.

Yonsei defeated Hanyang University 89-74 to advance to the semifinals of the 40th MBC Bae National Collegiate Basketball Jusang Tournament on Thursday at the Jusang Gymnasium. Yonsei will face Chung-Ang University at 3 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the same venue.

The final score difference was 15 points, but the story was far from satisfying. After leading by as much as 21 points, 56-35, at one point in the third quarter, Yonsei began to falter. They were down 66-64 midway through the fourth quarter. That’s when they hit a three-pointer and 토토사이트 순위 went on a run.

Three-point shooting was the key to Yonsei’s victory. Yonsei made 17 three-pointers on the night.

Choi Hyung-chan was the player who created the most three-point opportunities. Normally, Lee Min-seo or Lee Joo-young would be in charge of running the offense, but on this day, Choi was able to pass the ball to his teammates more easily.

The last Yonsei player to reach double-digit assists in the MBC was Park Kyung-sang, who delivered 13 assists on July 14, 2012 against Myongji University.

Choi is the first Yonsei player to record double-digit assists in the MBC in 12 years.

“I kept ordering Choi Hyung-chan, and I think one shot went in because of such a play, and he tends to be balanced when he gets his chance,” said Yonsei head coach Yoon Ho-jin. ”It was stiff because Lee Min-seo or Lee Joo-young did the opposite of what I promised to do to break Hanyang University’s zone defense, and it was stiff. Hyung-chan solved it well, so I kept pushing him. I hope Joo-young or Min-seo can reflect on that part.”

Lee Kyu-tae, who scored 21 points, including three three-pointers, said, “He has a lot of versatility, but it was disappointing that he didn’t show it much on the court. He praised Choi Hyung-chan for his leadership through MBC Varsity, saying, “He is the captain of the team and leads us by playing defense first.” He added, “He plays selflessly, so every player touches the ball once, which revitalizes the players’ energy and improves the team atmosphere.

Choi is recognized for his defense. If he can also show off his passing ability to save his teammates, he can increase his value. It will also help Yonsei to reach the top of the MBC boat.
