Eric Yokishi, a left-handed pitcher who spent five seasons with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization from 2019 to last year, has tried out for the Doosan Bears.
Yokishi is a short-term injury replacement for Doosan foreign pitcher Brandon Waddell.
“Yokishi arrived in the country the day before and tested at Icheon Bears Park in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do today,” a Doosan official said on Tuesday, adding, “We plan to test him one more time.”
“Nothing has been finalized yet,” the official said, adding, “Yokishi is one of the candidates.”
Doosan was hit with an emergency when Brandon, a foreign pitcher, was diagnosed with a partial left subscapularis muscle injury on May 25.
Brandon is scheduled to be re-examined in three weeks, and Doosan is looking at short-term options for foreign pitchers in case Brandon’s absence is prolonged.
Yokishi has appeared in 130 career games in South Korea, compiling a 56-36 record with a 2.85 ERA. He has plenty of experience in the KBO, so he won’t have to adjust to Korean baseball.
Last year, he was released midseason after going 5-3 with a 4.39 ERA in 12 games.
Doosan is also checking on the situation of SSG Landers.
SSG brought in replacement foreign pitcher Keisho Shirakawa on March 22 after original foreign pitcher Roenis Elias was injured.
SSG will choose one of the two players on the first of next month.
The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) introduced a new system this year that allows a team to place an existing foreign player on the rehabilitation list if he or she is injured to the point of needing medical treatment for more than six weeks, and to use a substitute foreign player until the player returns.
The substitute does not count against the substitution count, and the injured foreign player is eligible to return to the league after at least six weeks.
Once the injured foreign player returns, the substitute must either be replaced by another foreign player (deducting one registration) or terminate his contract through a waiver. 토토사이트 순위
