When adding 21K, the 20th record in MLB was the poor performance of 2 wins and 15 losses last season.
In the 150-year history of Major League Baseball (MLB), there are only 19 pitchers with more than 3,000 strikeouts. On average, this is a record that comes out once every eight years.
Veteran pitcher Zack Greinke (pictured), 41 years old, hopes to extend his playing career in order to achieve the record of 3,000 strikeouts. The American sports media outlet The Athletic reported on the 6th that “Greinke, who has 3,000 strikeouts and only 21 remaining, wants to play again this season.”
Greinke, who made his MLB debut in Kansas City in 2004, returned to Kansas City in 2022 after playing in Milwaukee, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona, and Houston. He is a right-handed pitcher who played 20 seasons in MLB until last year, recording a career record of 225 wins and 156 losses, an earned run average of 3.49, and 2,979 strikeouts. He is ‘Dr. K’ who recorded more than 200 strikeouts in six seasons (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017).
It is unclear whether Greinke’s wish to extend his playing career will come true. Greinke only recorded 2 wins, 15 losses, and an ERA of 5.06 in Kansas City last season. He had 97 strikeouts last year.
There don’t seem to be many clubs that would reach out to Greinke, who is over 40. His home team, Kansas City, also filled its starting pitching staff by recruiting Seth Lugo and Michael Waka during the Stove League season.
The Athletic reported, “Even if Greinke fails to reach 3,000 strikeouts, it is unlikely to affect the consideration of Hall of Fame induction.” 고스톱
