Could Zvezda midfielder Hwang In-beom become the eighth Korean player in the Spanish Primera Liga?
Serbian ’24 SEDAM’ reported on June 26 (KST), “Zvezda midfielder Hwang In-beom is on the radar of Real Betis. The Spanish club sent a scout to the derby match against Partizan, and Hwang was one of the best players.”
Hwang made his professional debut for Daejeon Hana Citizen in the K-League. In January 2019, he moved to the Vancouver Whitecaps of the American MLS. He became the first Korean player to play in the MLS at such a young age. Since the 2019 season, Hwang has been a regular in the team’s starting midfield, scoring four goals and adding three assists in 35 games.
In the 2020 season, Hwang made his European debut after recording one assist in six games. He played for Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League. Hwang had a successful debut season with four goals and four assists in 20 games in 2020-21, and by 2021-22, he had six goals and seven assists in 38 games.
However, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Premier League was suspended by FIFA and UEFA, and Hwang opted to join FC Seoul on a short-term loan. Hwang later finalized a move to Greek giants Olympiakos, but he made a huge impact in his short time in Seoul.
Last season, Hwang had one of his best performances. He scored five goals and provided four assists in 40 games for Olympiacos. He also played in the UEFA Europa League. Hwang reached a career high when he was voted as the runner-up for the Superga Elada Player of the Year.
Before this season, Hwang left Greece to join Zvezda in Serbia. He is currently enjoying career highs with Zvezda. He has four goals and four assists in 23 league games and one goal and one assist against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
With these performances, Hwang is now the center of attention across Europe. On May 25, Hwang started the Serbian Cup semifinal against rival Partizan in 스포츠토토 Belgrade, Serbia, at Stadion Zvena Zvezda and scored a goal in a 2-0 victory.
The match was reportedly attended by English Premier League (EPL) scouts, and Hwang put in an impressive performance, including assisting on the opening goal. Soccer fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of another Korean Premier League player.
And Betis are keen to sign Hwang In-beom. “Hwang has been one of Zvezda’s best players since the beginning of the season, he is a real engine in the game and there is no doubt that the interest in his play will not end at Betis. However, for the sake of the European competition, the Zvezda board must do everything in their power to keep him,” he added.
